A Co Monaghan student has had her sock designs displayed nationwide through an an art competition in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland. Down Syndrome Ireland held a competition recently for children to design their odd sock for 'odd sock day' and pupils from Corracrin National School were only "too happy" to get involved. Despite competition from all over the country, it was Corracrin's very own Rachel Gillanders from Emyvale who won first place.
Her design has now been printed on socks and now available to be purchased from the Down Syndrome Ireland Facebook page to raise much needed funds for Down Syndrome Ireland. Speaking to Northern Sound, Rachel said she wanted to get involved with the initiative in support of her best friend Annie McKenna who has Down Syndrome and is also a much loved pupil at Corracrin National School. Rachel says her school community "loves" to support and encourage Annie's uniqueness and she has encouraged other people her own age to get involved with the 'odd sock' initiative is for such an important cause:
