A local TD has called for urgent supports for farmers and those in the agriculture sector amid rising energy costs.
Deputy Brendan Smith told the Dail that the price of green diesel has surged by more than 70% in recent weeks, which is putting serious pressure on farm incomes.
In response the Tánaiste said there are legal limits to reducing excise duties but confirmed some relief measures have been introduced.

He said farmers are expected to benefit slightly from the recent changes.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Smith outlined the issue, and how much of an issue it is at the moment.
