Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan Monaghan, Brendan Smith, has welcomed confirmation from the Minister for Health that a national sepsis strategy is to be published shortly.
The HSE has prepared an 'Action on Sepsis: Five Year Strategy 2026 - 2030' and associated implementation plan.
This strategy is currently at the final stage of review by the HSE senior leadership team and the Department of Health, and is expected to be published shortly.
Approximately 3,000 people in Ireland lose their lives to sepsis every year.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Deputy Smith says he looks forward to reviewing the new national sepsis strategy.
He said he will continue to stress the importance of a cohesive approach to sepsis awareness and management as the EU Presidency programme is being developed:
