Locals are encouraged to take part in the 'Columban Way' today.
This event is hoped to be the first of many where people will come together to recreate the missionary route of St Columbanus as he followed the pilgrim path through Co Monaghan to the ancient monastic site at Bangor, Co Down.
The 11km pilgrim walk will kick off at 2pm this Sunday from the St Joseph Pastoral Centre in Monaghan Town and will finish at the Church of Ireland Hall, Glaslough via Ballyalbany Presbyterian Church.
Local historian Enda Galligan describes today's pilgrim walk as a "beautiful scenic route."
With proceeds going towards Monaghan SOSAD services, Enda has encouraged people to come along and take part on what will be a momentous occasion for the area in aid of such a worthy cause:
