A Co Monaghan book club is currently featuring on the RTE One television programme 'Book Club'.
Mannan Castle Golf Book Club in Carrickmacross, made up of five friends from the golf club have been appearing on the series that airs every Wednesday night. The first episode featured the locals but over the next four weeks, the Co Monaghan club will be showcased on the RTE show that is now its second year of production.
Like all good book clubs, their gatherings extend beyond simple reviews, instead delving into personal connections with each book. Expect lots of laughter, disagreements and even some tears. Links to local libraries through the series' website and engagement with local bookshops mean that viewers at home can join in on the fun by reading along.
Anthony Downey from the Mannon castle book club says the group have been coming together for the past nine years to review and discuss an array of different genres of books. Anthony says that the group also offers a social aspect bringing likeminded locals together. He said that the experience of hitting our TV screens was a lot of fun for the group and they certainly would be up for it again next year if the opportunity arose.
