Locals can avail of professional guidance via the HSE's Quitline.

Smokers in Cavan and Monaghan who are trying to kick the habit are being urged to take advantage of the free Nicotine Replacement Therapy aids (NRT) being offered through the HSE's Quitline. Local Aontu Cllr Sarah O' Reilly says "NRT are licensed medicines that come in different forms, including patches, gum and lozenges and they actually double a smokers' chances of kicking the habit for good." She said that they help with cravings and are a tool that can finally free people from this damaging habit.

6,000 die in Ireland each year as a result of smoking related illnesses; the Co Cavan Councillor said this is truly a staggering figure and 50 % of smokers will have resulting illnesses." Cllr O' Reilly said almost 1 in five people still smoke in this country and I would really urge people to take advantage of this free NRT that is freely available to them through 'Quitline' and through GP's for people on medical cards".
