Local TD Brendan Smith has welcomed the news.

“These projects have been approved under the Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund.  Infrastructure upgrading with an indicative cost of €20 million includes road improvements, footpaths, road safety, drainage, lighting, ancillary civil works, upgrading of Uisce Éireann network and further investment in Cavan Waste Water Treatment Plant.  ESB Networks will also be investing in their grid capacity locally.  In view of the demand for additional housing improved infrastructure across all these services is vital and is beneficial for the entire town," Deputy Smith said.

"This Investment Fund enables local authorities to plan for future growth and increased housing supply is essential.  Additional housing supply is dependent on having appropriate infrastructure and services in place.  I commend the County Councils in Cavan and Monaghan in their detailed and successful submissions in relation to local needs," he added.

Minister of State, Niamh Smyth also explained the impact the funding will have.

She said:"This is very welcome news for Cavan-Monaghan. We all know that the shortage of housing is one of the most pressing issues facing families and young people across our constituency, and this investment gets to the heart of the problem.

"By putting the right infrastructure in place, roads, water and grid capacity, we remove the barriers that have been holding up housing delivery for years. These four projects have the potential to unlock thousands of new homes in Cavan Town and Monaghan Town, and that is something I am very proud to welcome today."

Senator Robbie Gallagher told Northern Sound about the impact the project will have on the community in Co. Monaghan.

"One is in relation to the Clones road, where the minister has allocated anything up to €20 million, to go ahead and proceed with a link road to take you to from the Clones Road, via the Oriel Road, straight onto the Ballybay Road. That will help to alleviate traffic there.

"Constructing that road will open up road for up to 1200 homes potentially, by the development of this roadway," he added.
