A Co. Monaghan mother has shared the news that her son has been sanctioned his Special Needs Assistant (SNA).
Gráinne McElvaney announced that her son, Sonny, will now be able to begin his primary school journey properly, with the support, care, and resources he needs and deserves.
After more than a year of the family received confirmation of the sanction.
While the SNA allocation does not cover the full school day, the family say it will allow Sonny to attend school for the hours he has been granted, marking a step forward.
Sonny had been unable to start school in September as he awaited the approval of additional supports.
Throughout the process, Gráinne and her family refused to give up, determined to ensure Sonny received the same opportunities as every other child.
Speaking to Northern Sound Grainne said that it's a wonderful news, but it's been a long fight.
