Dr Keith Ian Quintyne from the Department of Public Health North East says we could be past the peak locally.

A low positivity rate at the Virginia pop-up test centre could mark a change in the level of Covid in the community.

The test centre at the showgrounds was set up after public health officials raised concern about the spread of Covid-19 in the county, with 353 people attending last Friday and Saturday.

The positivity rate there was under 10 per cent, where the previous average for the entire county was over 20 per cent.
