A local MEP is visiting projects that have benefitted from the LEADER development scheme this morning.
Ciaran Mullooly is visiting the Sliabh Beagh Hotel, along with other projects in Scotstown and throughout Monaghan.
Currently the EU does not have a ring-fenced budget set aside for the programme post-2027.
As a result, Monaghan Integrated Development have invited the Independent Ireland MEP to the county.
Speaking to Northern Sound, MEP Mullooly said that he is on a "fact finding mission".
He explained why the Commission changed the funding structure.
MEP Mullooly said: "In the past, there were two pillars available under CAP.
"In the second programme, the EU LEADER programme was secure. That's not the proposal at the moment.
"I'm totally against the proposal for the new scheme, which is that they'll send one stream of funding to Ireland.
"While LEADER will be considered, nothing will be ring-fenced. That won't work.
"The LEADER company in Monaghan are supporting rural communities," he added.
