'We have a band of precipitation currently sinking down from the north of Ireland'

Met Éireann is warning drivers of hazardous conditions as a status yellow ice warning remains in place. Black ice is possible on roads, as well as freezing rain, and even some snow showers later this afternoon.

The current weather warning remains in place until midday. Siobhan Ryan, Meteorologist with Met Éireann says conditions are poor out there this morning. "It's very cold; it's icy and we have a band of precipitation currently sinking down from the north of Ireland.

"There will be a real mix of rain, sleet and some snowfall embedded in that. Also, there is the potential for some black ice on the leading edge of that in particular.

"So real treacherous, icy, cold conditions out there - particularly through the morning hours," she added
