Shortage of hairdressers locally says Cavan salon owner

There's a shortage of hairdressers across Cavan and Monaghan.

The shortfall came about as significant numbers of trained professionals left the sector when they couldn't work during the Covid pandemic.

Recognising the need for more hairdressers in the Northern Sound region, Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board has developed an apprenticeship training programme, which gives hair salons a grant to take on and train new people into the sector. Leanne McKiernan is owner of LMK Hairdressing on Main Street, Ballinagh, Cavan. She says the shortage is noticeable to those in the trade and welcomes anything that addresses the issue.
