Minister of State Marian Harkin has confirmed she'll nominate Maria Steen in a bid for the Áras. Sligo-Leitrim TD Marian Harkin says she'll sign a nomination paper for Steen but will give her support to Heather Humphreys. Former Cavan-Monaghan TD Heather Humphreys is Fine Gaels candidate for the Presidency.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Deputy Harkin says she's backing Ms Steen in order to give a wider choice to voters. Conservative campaigner Steen has less than 24 hours to secure her place on the ballot. The only confirmed candidates so far are Heather Humphreys, Jim Gavin and Catherine Connolly.
