Minister says foreign markets key to protecting local poultry sector

The Department of Agriculture says foreign markets are key to protecting the local poultry sector.

Minister of State Martin Heydon also praised the broiler and egg production industry for their work on antimicrobial resistance.

There had been questions raised over the future viability of the poultry sector in Cavan and Monaghan because of a recent report which raised concerns over ammonia emissions and water quality from large scale farms.

But speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Minister Heydon said he's keen to support poultry producers.
