MMR vaccine clinics to take place locally

MMR vaccines are available free of charge from GPs to all groups, but primarily to those under 18 years.

The HSE has announced details of an MMR catch-up campaign to protect against measles due to a rise in cases of the disease in the UK and Europe. Measles is highly infectious and can be an acute and serious infection. It causes a rash illness, with cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis and high fever. The campaign focuses on delivering the MMR vaccine to key groups, who may have missed their vaccines in the past. MMR vaccines are available free of charge from GPs to all groups, but primarily to those under 18 years, and from HSE community clinics for everyone eligible who is aged 5 years and over.

A number of clinics in Cavan and Monaghan will take place over the week, starting from today, where a vaccine clinic will is available to locals from 4pm to 7pm at the Primary Care, Drumalee in Co Cavan. Tomorrow, Tuesday 26th March, a clinic will take place at the Primary Care Centre in Monaghan from 10 am 1pm.

On Wednesday the 27th of March, Bailieborough Primary Care Centre, will host a clinic between 10am to 1pm. On Friday the 29th of March a clinic from 10am to 1pm will be available to locals at the Cavan Monaghan HSE Community Vaccination Centre, St Davnet’s Campus, Co Monaghan. Finally, a vaccination clinic is scheduled for Saturday the 30th March between 10am to 1pm at the Primary Care Centre, Drumalee, Co Cavan.

In a statement issued to Northern Sound, Sinead McConnell, Vaccination Lead, Community Healthcare Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo said; "The MMR catch-up campaign aims to protect against measles due to a rise in cases of the virus in the UK and Europe. Two doses of MMR vaccine are needed to be fully vaccinated and if not fully protected then MMR vaccines can be obtained from your GP or HSE Vaccination Clinic."
