She may have just 'missed out' on an Oscar nomination for her role as 'Ma' in Kenneth Branagh's Belfast, but Caitríona Balfe remains the pride of Monaghan this evening.
The Tydavnet native was hotly tipped to emerge victorious earlier today as the famous nominations were announced in the US, but it was not to be.
However, her dad, Jim who spoke to the Wider View this afternoon said everyone was very proud of his daughter and her achievements since arriving in LA a number of years ago - having mastered her art.
He said Caitríona showed signs of being a "great actress" from an early age and was a brilliant mimic of personalities - especially Maggie Tatcher and MEP Mairead McGuinness.
Jim added that regardless of today's outcome, it had been a "a great honour" for Caitríona to be 'considered' for the nomination in the first instance.
