IFA research shows average farm sizes in Monaghan stand at 44 acres, the second smallest in the country.

Agriculture in Monaghan contributes over 1.5 billion euro to the local economy according to the IFA. The total agricultural land area in Monaghan is 257,000 acres and is predominantly grassland.

According to research carried out by the Irish Famers Association, average farm sizes in Monaghan stand at 44 acres, the second smallest in the country.

There are over 9,000 people employed in the county either directly or indirectly. The average age of a farmer in Monaghan is 57 and there are 4,478 individual family farmed within the county of Monaghan.
