Monaghan Council elects new Chair

Councillors met this morning for their AGM.

Fine Gael's Aidan Campbell has been elected Chair of Monaghan County Council.

The local authority met today to elect a new Cathaoirleach for the year ahead.

He takes over from Sinn Féin's Colm Carthy who was widely praised today for his work as Mayor during the pandemic.

Independent Councillor Hugh McElvaney was elected Leas-Cathaoirleach, replacing Fine Gaels Richard Truell.

Councillor McElvaney is the longest serving Councillor in Monaghan, having first been elected almost 50 years ago.
