Raymond Aughey says rising costs and high insurance premiums are leading to increased prices.

A Monaghan councillor and publican says he isn't surprised to hear that the price of a pint has increased in some local pubs.

Councillor Raymond Aughey is the owner of the Squealing Pig in Monaghan Town and Chairperson of the Monaghan branch of the Vintner's Association.

He's pointed to rising electricity costs and high insurance premiums as reasons behind potential price hikes in some pubs.

Raymond Aughey told this morning's Joe Finnegan Show that his own electricity costs have increased by 20% and he's received no rebates from insurance companies throughout the pandemic:
