A Monaghan Councillor says the death of Micheal Kirk in a suspected hit and run shocked and bewildered the local area.

Sinn Féin's Noel Keelan says Michael was hard-working and full of life.

The father of two was originally from Inniskeen but had been living in Shercock.

He was found on the Blaney Road outside Crossmaglen at around 5am on Sunday.

A 35-year-old man was arrested by detectives investigating the circumstances surrounding Michael's death and he has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The PSNI is also interested in tracing the movements of a blue Audi 6, as well as gathering information on the last movements of Michael.

Councillor Keelan made an appeal to Shannonside Northern Sound for anyone who may have information to come forward:
