Monaghan councillor says people want 'certainty' going forward this winter

A new report from Eirgrid highlighted strains on electricity supplies, leading to fears of possible outages in the coming months.

"Everyone wants certainty going forward this winter"

That's according to Monaghan councillor David Maxwell.

His concerns follow comments made by Eirgrid this week, which stated that the outlook for electricity supply was 'challenging', raising the prospect of widespread power outages with demand outstripping supply.

The local Fine Gael representative said Government is looking to cover as many people as possible so that nobody is disconnected, however he believes that "logistically" it could be a problem.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Maxwell said he would "fully support" a blanket ban on disconnections from now until next March or April, adding that "no family" should have to endure sitting in the "cold" or "dark" this winter:
