A Monaghan Councillor wants to see additional funding for home improvement grants.
Cllr Paul Gibbons raised the issue at the recent full council meeting.
He sought support from the local authority to call on Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne to immediately release additional funding to the Monaghan County Council.
Cllr. Gibbons is looking for this to alleviate the backlog of applications for the Housing Adaption Grants for people with a Disability, Housing aid for older people and Mobility aid grants.
He is making the point that these grants are essential for independence, dignity and safety.
He says that can be the difference between an older person staying in their home and keeping independence or having to make alternative arrangements.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Gibbons explained the importance of these grants.
