An Irish Independent survey has found that an "almost negligible number of fines" have been issued over the past five years.

Leitrim and Kilkenny are the only other Local Authorities that have failed to issue any dog fouling fines over the same period.

Meanwhile, Cavan has only handed out two fines in the past five years.

It is an offence to not clean up after your dog has fouled in a public place, carrying an on-the-spot fine of €150.

However, despite an increase in the number of dogs being kept as pets, an Irish Independent survey has found that an "almost negligible number of fines" have been issued over the past years.
