A Monaghan GP has spoken out about the effects of Seasonal Affective Disorder, also known as SAD.
According to Dr Illona Duffy, the disorder is "very prevalent" and leads to many dreading the winter months due to reduced sunlight.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Dr Duffy highlighted the importance of sunlight when it comes to "boosting" serotonin levels which is also known as the brain's "happy hormone."
Dr Duffy also highlighted that during the winter months those with already-low serotonin levels can experience a further drop, with symptoms such as low moods and tiredness.
