A Monaghan GP is encouraging more women to become more aware of the warning signs of breast cancer.
October is breast cancer awareness month.
3,600 women and 30 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Ireland.
Dr Illona Duffy outlined the importance of the breast check programme which offers a free mammogram to women every two years who are between the ages of 50 and 70.
Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, Dr Duffy said that if you're over 50 and the breast check service is in your area, make sure you get your call.
Dr Duffy also outlined the importance of early detection when it comes to breast cancer.
She says the lifelong risk of breast cancer does increase as times goes by.
Dr Duffy outlined how these risks can be increased by certain things, particularly obesity:
