A Monaghan doctor thinks that Jennifer Carroll McNeill is facing unfair criticism.
It comes as questions are raised about this year's flu vaccine for over 65s, after some people reported having a severe dose of the flu despite being vaccinated.
Dr. Illona Duffy says flu vaccines are planned months in advance, based on global data, and while a new variant emerged, the jab still offered protection.
She says vaccination may not prevent flu entirely but significantly reduces severity, and claims international evidence shows little extra benefit from alternative doses.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show Dr Duffy said that blaming Minister Carroll McNeill is unfair, noting the decision predated her role and reflects politics rather than public health.
