Monaghan GP urges people to avoid using sun beds

A Monaghan GP is urging people to avoid using sun beds to give themselves a tan.

A HSE report released this week found that cases of skin cancer in Ireland are rapidly on the rise.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin said he would be in favour of a complete ban on sunbeds, calling it a 'no brainer'.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in Ireland with more than 11,000 cases diagnosed every year.

Monaghan based GP, Dr Ilona Duffy says the idea that sunbeds don't cause damage to skin is a complete myth.
