This week marks organ donation week.
Monaghan native, Val Mohan who underwent a liver transplant in his early 40s, says it's an effort that saved his life.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Val said before the operation he suffered extreme tiredness.
When he went to bed at night he was unable to sleep and as a result, he became extremely ill and was subsequently hospitalised.
He remained in hospital for 10 weeks and was told he needed a transplant.
Val was put on a transplant list and eventually received a new liver.
"Every day you get over the transplant, the better things are," he added.
"There is a massive team working in the hospital to make sure that the body doesn't reject the organ.
"It really is an amazing thing."
