Monaghan native jailed for rape of woman he met on Tinder

Mr Loughran grew up in Co Monaghan.

A man who attacked and raped a woman in her home after meeting her on Tinder has been jailed for seven-and-a-half years.

In her victim impact statement, the woman told the court that Peter Loughran, of Glasnevin Downs, Ballygall, Dublin, had destroyed her life.

The Court had previously been told Mr Loughran had grown up in Co Monaghan.

After chatting on Tinder for a week or so, Peter Loughran called over to the woman’s apartment in Dublin on January 5th 2018.

The court heard they started kissing, but she didn’t like it. She told gardaí he became aggressive and she asked him to leave because she was scared. He refused.

She described how he banged her head off the floor and raped her in her bedroom.

At one point, she said he slapped her when she tried to cover her face because he started filming her.

Her nightmare only came to an end when he panicked after she pretended to faint in the bathroom.

Since that day, she no longer feels safe in her home and is too afraid to answer her own door.

Loughran initially claimed the sexual contact between them had been consensual, but eventually admitted what he did, and was jailed for 7.5 years today.
