Monaghan professor says basic measures are still most effective way to stop Covid

Sam McConkey says a new drug being developed in the USA to fight Covid-19 could be as important as the invention of penicillin almost 100 years ago.

Infectious diseases specialist at RCSI Sam McConkey says the increase in transmission in recent weeks shows that Ireland's vaccination rates could still be higher.

He says a new drug being developed in the USA to fight Covid-19 could be as important as the invention of penicillin almost 100 years ago.

However Professor McConkey says until that is rolled out in the next six months, there are still measures we can take.
