A bench warrant has been issued for a 30-year-old man in Co Monaghan who was charged with an alleged significant drug seizure.
He was remanded on continuing bail and was to appear at Monaghan District Court yesterday but made no appearance.
Saulius Vertelis with an address at Riverside, Coolshannagh, Monaghan Town was charged in July of last year over the seizure of MDMA tablets with an estimated street value of €235,000.
The Monaghan resident was released on High Court bail in September in relation to the charges that he faces. Sgt Lisa McEntee told the court yesterday that her application would be a bench warrant which was approved by the presiding judge.
The alleged discovery at the apartment related to 27,500 ecstasy tablets with a street value of just over €235,000. It's also alleged that Gardai also discovered 50 grams of cannabis herb valued at €1,000 in a vehicle.
The non-national who has lived in Ireland since 2016 had appeared at a number of previous sittings but failed to appear at his most recent sitting. At the last appearance in March, the court was that DPP directions were awaited.
The solicitor acting on the behalf of the accused said he didn't know why he wasn't in attendance and the bench warrant has been issued for his immediate arrest.
