The Monaghan woman warned that speeding is "evident" through the number of tyre marks on rural roads.

A Monaghan woman has called for speed vans to be stationed on rural roads.

Linda was travelling in her car on the Bunnoe road close to Cootehill, County Cavan, with her two children last Sunday when a vehicle came "flying" straight towards her when approaching a sharp bend.

The Monaghan mother said she was "thankful" that the vehicle swerved back onto the opposite side of the road before hitting her head on, but has warned that "more needs to be done" to ensure that lives are not lost on our rural roads due to speeding.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Linda says speeding on rural roads is "evident" and that occasional speed vans across rural areas would give people an "incentive" to slow down.

While the ultimate decision may come down to additional costs being needed to station a speed van in such locations, Linda believes saving the life of an adult or child is "more important."
