'Gardai now believe that Kieran Hamill was the man who was seen fleeing from the Mooney house'

A murder investigation has been launched into the death of 60-year-old Christopher Mooney in Monaghan. He was found dead with stab wounds at his home in Broomfield near Castleblayney yesterday morning.

A short time later 37-year-old Kieran Hamill was hit by a car nearby and was killed instantly. Conor Lally is Crime and Security Editor with the Irish Times - he says Gardaí suspect Mr Mooney was killed by Kieran Hamill.

"Gardai now believe that Kieran Hamill was the man who was seen fleeing from the Mooney house. They suspect he killed Christopher Mooney early yesterday morning and was disturbed during the course of that crime," he added.
