Gardai are currently at the scene of an ongoing operation this evening on the N2 in Carrickmacross.
The N2 between Carrickmacross and Ardee remains closed following the incident.
Gardai confirmed the news to Northern Sound citing the reason for the closure is due to an 'ongoing incident'.
It’s understood the road is closed following an incident following a suspicious device being discovered on the road close to Carrickmacross.
Gardai have advised motorists to be aware of this closure and seek an alternative route due to ongoing traffic delays.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed to Northern Sound that at 03:00pm today, An Garda Síochána stopped a vehicle travelling on the N2 south of Carrickmacross.
Following the vehicle stop, An Garda Síochána requested the assistance of the Irish Defence Forces EOD team.
They say as this is an ongoing operation, there is no further comment.
