A local parish priest who had drawn national attention for his outspoken stance on crime in the border region has passed away.
Fr. Oliver O'Reilly, who was originally from Cornafean, Co. Cavan, passed away peacefully yesterday at Connolly Hospital.
The Ballyconnell parish priest was widely known across the Kilmore Diocese and beyond.
In 2019, the then-Taoiseach Leo Varadkar had praised Fr. O'Reilly for his "considerable courage" following his homily in which he strongly condemned the abduction and assault of businessman Kevin Lunney.
The Taoiseach said he had offered "moral leadership in a difficult time."
Reposing at Lakelands Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Cavan tomorrow evening, with removal on Tuesday morning at 11:15am to the Sacred Heart Church, Arva, to arrive for concelebrated Requiem Mass at noon.
