There were 21 refusals of social housing in Cavan in 2024 and 17 in Monaghan.
The information was given by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage in response to a Parliamentary Question.
In Cavan of the 21 refusals, the number of first refusals was 16, with the second refusals amounting to 5.
In Monaghan there were 12 first refusals and five second refusals, totalling to 17.
Nationally, there were 934 refusals of offers of social housing in 2024, of these 693 were first refusals and 241 were second refusals.
In his response the Minister noted that there is some inconsistency in how the data is recorded at the local authority level.
He added that refusal of offers can prolong the procedure, resulting in properties remaining vacant which is not satisfactory. However, the decision to accept an offer of social housing home is an important life changing decision for the household and can require careful consideration.
