More and more people have gotten dogs during the pandemic.

People who have gotten dogs during the pandemic are being urged to remember their responsibilities to the pet and other people.

Dog ownership has risen during the pandemic as more people are at home but Monaghan's dog warden has issued a warning to new owners.

Brendan Smyth says people need to make sure their dog is trained and is kept under control and that it is microchipped, something that is now a legal requirement. A dog licence is also required by law.

Issues with dog fouling and people not cleaning up after their dogs are often cited in towns and villages across Cavan and Monaghan.
