New EU fishing quotas which will hit Irish fishermen are being described as "a disaster for the fishing industry."
Over 2,300 jobs are at risk from the decision made by member states on Saturday to block an arrangement that protects the country's fishing industry.
The Killibegs Fishermen's Organisation says the Irish fishing sector will lose around 57 thousand tonnes of fish, which is a hit of around 100 million euro.
Its Chief Executive Dominic Rihan says it means fewer vessels will be able to take to sea.
