Monaghan Fire crews responded to a number of isolated gorse fires yesterday in the wider Bragan area.
The local fire service collaborated with the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service in recent days to assist in the response to a significant gorse fire located on the northern side of the border in County Tyrone.
In a statement issued to Northern Sound by Chief Fire Officer, Dermot Brannigan, he said Monaghan Fire & Civil Protection will continue to monitor the situation over the coming days during this dry weather period.
Monaghan Fire service is advising members of the public to remain vigilant, always be conscious of your fire safety obligations and report any suspicious activity and call 999/112 in the event of a confirmed fire sighting.
Meanwhile, Arising from current weather patterns a high fire risk is deemed to exist in all areas where hazardous fuels such as dead grasses and shrub fuels such as heather and gorse exist. An orange waring has been issued countrywide and is expected to remain in place until Tuesday. Current high-pressure dominated weather and warm, dry weather conditions are expected to remain in place over the weekend.
Elevated fire risks are expected in all areas during this period. With continued fine weather, higher levels of visitor activity are expected in the countryside. Continued vigilance is warranted in areas with open public access and areas associated with active turf cutting.
Visitors to public recreational areas should cooperate with all fire safety requirements and not light open fires or barbeques in high-risk areas.
