Over 16,000 passports were issued to people in the Northern Sound region last year.
That's according to new figures obtained by 7LÁ, TG4 from the Department of Foreign Affairs under the Freedom of Information Act.
In Cavan, 9,087 passports were issued in 2025, while in Monaghan the figure stood at 7,206.
Overall, 933,121 passport applications were made in 2025, that's down from just over 1.06 million the year before.
The figures also show applications from Irish citizens living abroad rose significantly last year, increasing by almost 35 percent to 270,077.
