1,700 homes without power in Cavan

Traffic lights are out of order at Dunnes Stores in Monaghan town while a tree is blocking half the road on the Monaghan side of Ballinode village.

The County Council has been notified of both.

Meanwhile, over 1700 homes are without power in Cavan town this morning.

ESB Powercheck is reporting 1769 customers affected by outages.

In Monaghan, 500 customers are impacted by power cuts in Ballybay, with reports of outages at 386 homes the Knockaconny area of Monaghan town.

Meanwhile, drivers are being warned that there may be debris or fallen trees on routes this morning.

The R182 Road at Annyart in Castleblayney is closed due to a fallen tree, with a tree partially blocking Ballinode village.

Brian Farrell from the Road Safety Authority says motorists travelling in areas outside the red alert's also need to be careful:

A Status Red Wind Warning's now in place for Cork and Kerry as the Storm Barra hits the country.

A red alert for Clare will also come into effect from four this afternoon.

Gusts in excess of 130 kilometres per hour are expected, and homes are businesses are advised to expect disruption to power and travel.

Meanwhile orange warnings are in place for most other coastal counties, and yellow alerts for the rest of the country.

The Department of Education has advised schools remain closed in 12 counties.

Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather says the whole country will feel the effects of the storm.
