Part VIII planning has been granted for an extension to the Peace Link sports complex in Clones.

The approval was proposed by Councillor Richard Truell at today's Monaghan County Council meeting, and seconded by Pat Treanor.

The Peace Link project will include a two-storey side extension to the existing building.

This will allow for a multi-purpose space at ground level, an extension to the existing gym, a sensory room and changing facilities.

There is also provision for an extension to the strength and conditioning room on the first floor, as well as a recovery room and physio room.

Councillor Richard Truell said the Peace Link has fostered better relationships north and south of the border and called it a "real success story".

He added that it's been a tough year for the facility and that today's news will be very welcome.

Councillor Pat Treanor seconded the proposal, and said the Peace Link is now at capacity and that this planning approval will enable it to move on to the "next stage".

Elsewhere, Sean Gilliand hailed the Peace Link as a "flagship project" and said it was exciting to see it looking to progress to the next level.]
