Fianna Fail's PJ O'Hanlon has been elected as Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council.
The Carrickmacross representative was elected by an unanimous decision by the elected members of Monaghan County Council.
Cllr O'Hanlon was proposed by Cllr Seamus Coyle and seconded by Cllr Raymond Aughey at the local authority's AGM this afternoon.
Speaking at the meeting, Cllr O'Hanlon said it was a great honour to elected as the Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council. He said looked forward to working with all the councillors for the betterment of the county, Cllr O'Hanlon paid tribute to the outgoing Cathaoirleach, Cllr Paul Gibbons.
Cllr O'Hanlon described Cllr Gibbons as very fair and congratulated him on his time in the chair following the elevation of Cathy Bennett to national politics.
First elected as a public representative in 2004, Cllr O’Hanlon representing Carrickmacross-Castleblayney Municipal District brings decades of experience, strong leadership, and deep community roots to the role. In his address, he reaffirmed his commitment to fairness, collaboration and working to a common goal.
Cllr Richard Truell was elected as the Leas-Cathaoirleach of the County Council, he was proposed by Cllr Sean Gilliland and seconded by Cllr Aidan Campbell.
