A local TD has welcomed that planning exemptions for modular homes in back gardens comes into effect today.
Deputy David Maxwell says it's one of a number of ways that Government are tackling the current housing sitution.
People can now build the small houses without the need for planning permission, as long as it's 45 square metres or less in size.
A number of other planning laws have been relaxed alongside this - including home improvements such as insulation, sub-dividing walls and bike and bin storage
The Monaghan Fine Gael TD said today's announcement will be very good news for people who have wanted to put the likes of a log cabin at the back of a another house.
Deputy Maxwell says at least there is now other options that might suit some people living in rural areas.
