Minister Niamh Smyth met with the CEO of Cuan, Dr Stephanie O'Keeffe in recent days to discuss the progress with the delivery of a Women's Refuge for Cavan & Monaghan.
Minister Smyth says she has been advised that suitable sites have been shortlisted and that feasibility studies are being conducted on them.
She says the stakeholders including Cuan, Safe Ireland/Tearmann DVS, Housing Association and Department officials are meeting weekly to progress the delivery of this project.
An 8 unit Refuge is being looked at to support women in both counties.
Cuan have advised that this will be enhanced by the provision of safe homes in both counties and outreach services on the ground. Minister Smyth welcomed the progress to date and urged Dr O'Keeffe about the essential need for this service on the ground in Cavan and Monaghan as soon as possible.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the Cavan/Monaghan TD said she ideally would like to see a separate refuge in both counties.
