A proposal for an additional 18 step-down beds in Monaghan Hospital is due to be approved in the "near future".
Local TD Niamh Smyth says this will grow capacity at Monaghan Hospital, as well as relieve pressure on Cavan General Hospital and the nursing home sector.
Deputy Smyth says it's great news and comes on the back of five additional step-down beds having been opened in Monaghan Hospital last week.

She told Shannonside Northern Sound that she is "very confident" that the additional beds will available shortly:
