The proposed construction of a new filling station on the N55 in Cavan has been appealed to An Coimisiún Pleanála.
The new station that was given the go-ahead by Cavan County Council last month was to be located on the site of the former Cavan Motors dealership on the outskirts of Cavan Town.
Plans lodged with Cavan County Council called for the demolition of the existing buildings on site and the closure of the entrance off the N55. In their place, a new service station building with a maximum height of 8.4 metres will be constructed.
The planned building will contain an off-license area, four food and drink vendors, two communal seating areas, and a drive thru facility consisting of a hatch and lane. Four pump islands under a canopy measuring 5.55 metres high with space for eight cars and 51 car parking spaces are also included. Two HGV fueling bays, two car wash bays, and 10 bike parking spaces all make up part of the application.
A number of submissions were received during the planning process against the development, citing concerns over light pollution affecting nearby houses and levels of traffic on the road.
Despite these, Cavan County Planners gave the go-ahead for the new filling station with 25 conditions attached. An Coimisiún Pleanála. will decide on the application towards the end of November.
