A local councillor has asked for an update in plans are in place to repair an area of cobble stone paving in Co Monaghan, ahead of sittings returning to Carrickmacross Couthouse.
Colm Carthy raised the issue at the most recent meeting of the Carrickmacross - Castleblayney Municipal District.
He outlined that there is a section of area that has dipped and twisted over time which is creating safety concerns for both drivers and pedestrians.
In response it was confirmed that the executive will carry out localised repairs to the cobblestones in the public car park to the front of the courthouse/Shirley Arms Hotel as soon as is possible and reasonably practicable.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Carthy outlined the issue.
"Yes, so your listeners from the south of the county will know that there is a parking area that services the Shirley Arms Hotel, as well as Matilda's Café and the Courthouse restaurant. But with the reintroduction of court settings planned for the not-too-distant future, the area itself is very highly used and it's a cobblestone surface on it and there's one particular section of it that has dipped and twisted over the years that needs to be levelled out again. The council have come back to say that they will carry out localised repairs on those cobblestones, so I'm happy to hear that, but it is an area that's very highly used by not just the people of Carrickmacross, but those who visit the town, so I'd be hopeful that we can get that work done as quickly as possible and I'll be continuing to push that because it is important."
