"RTÉ is no longer fit for purpose." That's according to Monaghan councillor Cathy Bennett who has also criticised the government's latest mixed messaging around RTÉ. Cllr Bennett said that mixed messaging and direct contractions are extremely frustrating for the public that wants to see the government get to grips with the dysfunction at RTÉ.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, the local Sinn Fein representative re-iterated her party's call for the TV licence to be scrapped immediately along with the introduction of a legal amnesty from prosecution for those who have not paid the fee. According to Cllr Bennett, taking those who have not paid their TV licence to court will cost around €2 million, something which she says "will not" balance the books out and makes no sense at all.
