It's nearly three years since Judge Gerard Haughton was commissioned to carry out the inquiry.

A scoping inquiry into the death of Shane O'Farrell is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

It's nearly three years now since Judge Gerard Haughton was commissioned to carry out the inquiry.

Mr O'Farrell was killed in a hit and run incident while out cycling his bike in 2011.

The driver was out on bail at the time.

Shane's family have endeavoured to find the truth about what happened to their son and brother on that fateful day.

Deputy Matt Carthy, meanwhile, says that once the findings of the scoping inquiry are published, a public inquiry into the Monaghan man's death will begin.
